SUMMARY:QUEER CINEMA: LOST & FOUND SERIES PRESENTED WINTER KEPT US WARM
DESCRIPTION:Extroverted Doug and shy Peter are unlikely friends whose relationship slowly begins to morph into something different over the course of a school year at the University of Toronto. Widely credited as being A) the first English-language Canadian feature to play Cannes\, B) Canada’s first queer film\, and C) the film that inspired David Cronenberg to become a filmmaker\, WINTER KEPT US WARM is an underseen but true landmark film\, newly restored in 4K by Canadian International Pictures. \nScreening with a video introduction by Queer Cinema: Lost & Found programmer Elizabeth Purchell. \n$13.50 evening / $11 matinee

SUMMARY:Ballot Eats the Bullet: U Matter!
DESCRIPTION:The play is dedicated to the most silenced voice in American history\, the black woman. This engaging choreopoem fuses jazz aesthetic movement\, elegant melodic voices in four-part harmonies\, truth-laced spoken word and beautifully crafted vignettes that engage all five senses and paint a portrait of what it means to be a black woman in America. The piece openly confronts topics such as identity\, politics\, healthcare\, relationships\, love\, and police brutality\, all told through a lens of tough love with a side of humor.

SUMMARY:CounterTechnique with Kelsey Paschich
DESCRIPTION:Independent dance groups ARCOS and BLiPSWiTCH and artists Emily Rushing and Erica Saucedo are hosting a cooperative workshop in their weekly dance classes featuring Countertechnique® certified teacher Kelsey Paschich. The Countertechnique® class is a contemporary dance technique class. It stretches\, coordinates and strengthens the body\, making the dancer sweat\, build stamina and really move. The class starts with a recurring set of exercises\, allowing dancers to investigate the Countertechnique® principles in detail. The second half of the class consists of changing components\, working towards luscious movement combinations and jumping at the end. The Countertechnique® class results in dancers using less energy\, losing their fear of taking risks and gaining speed in changing direction.

SUMMARY:Andy St. Martin: Timed Lines and Otherworks
DESCRIPTION:Timed Lines and Otherworks features new paintings from Austin-based artist Andy St. Martin. The show also includes a selection of his smaller drawings and explores how St. Martin has long used the practice of drawing to inform his painting. The opening will serve as the launch of a book of these drawings titled\, Si Si. About the drawings included in the show and the book\, St. Martin writes\, “These drawings have lived on as powerful little documents of line and priority regarding my thinking and composing. My preoccupation allowed me to shed self-consciousness while drawing\, and its other function took momentary priority. The results have an honesty\, economy\, efficiency and life that can be hard to access. Artists are often at their best when self-consciousness is not present. This combined with heightened consciousnesses is the ironic formula for strong stuff.” \nThis project has been financed in part by the City of Austin’s Elevate Grant Program.
