SUMMARY:LIPSTICK: A QUEER FARCE
DESCRIPTION:Austin Rainbow Theatre closes its second season in a riotous and heartfelt celebration of queer identity. Lipstick by Lane Michael Stanley\, an Austin favorite playwright\, opens this April. Blending farcical comedy with genuine emotion\, Lipstick is a love letter to the queer community that offers sharp dialogue\, colorful characters\, and laugh-out-loud moments. \nThe story follows Anna\, who nervously invites Kelly over for what might be a date—or just a friendly dinner. But what starts as a simple evening quickly spirals into comedic chaos as Anna’s ex-girlfriend\, nosy best friend\, a handyman\, her mother\, and a string of potential suitors crash the party. Adding to the hilarity a multitude of “stimulators” take on a character of their own \, serving as both punchlines and plot points. With its 90s sitcom nostalgia and poignant reflections on love and self-discovery\, Lipstick promises to leave audiences laughing\, crying\, and cheering for its messy\, relatable characters. \nBeyond its sharp humor and chaotic charm\, Lipstick is a crucial play in today’s cultural landscape. It provides a rare and authentic representation of queer relationships\, exploring the nuances of dating\, self-acceptance\, and community dynamics in a world that often overlooks or misrepresents LGBTQIA+ experiences. By embracing the messiness of love and identity\, Lipstick challenges societal norms and stereotypes\, making space for authentic and inclusive storytelling. Stanley’s work shines a light on the importance of queer joy\, not just queer struggle\, emphasizing that LGBTQIA+ narratives can be hilarious\, heartfelt\, and deeply resonant. \nThis project has been financed in part by the City of Austin Elevate grant program.

SUMMARY:You Matter Here Mural
DESCRIPTION:“YOU MATTER HERE” \nThree simple words\, but for many people\, they’re words we don’t hear enough. \nThis mural was created as a reminder for anyone walking by\, whether you’re having a good day or carrying something heavy\, that your presence matters. East Austin has always been a place built on culture\, resilience and community\, and this piece is meant to give something back to the people who move through it every day. \nMental health conversations don’t always happen out loud. If this mural makes one person pause\, breathe\, or feel a little less alone\, then it’s doing its job. \nYou matter here. Siempre. \nThis project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
