DESCRIPTION:Come join us at the Munday Library\, 2nd Floor for a fun and creative workshop where attendees will create a unique and personal flag using sewing and fusing applique techniques. Patrons will leave the workshop with a completed single sided parade flag (12”x18”) suitable for direct hanging\, framing or flying. The workshop will be led by artist\, Alexandra Robinson\, a visual artist who creates flags in her own artistic practice. She will guide you through the process step by step\, so don’t worry if you’re new to applique. All materials will be provided\, just bring your creativity and enthusiasm! SUMMARY:Yearning\, Every Dawn
DESCRIPTION:“Yearning\, Every Dawn” is a live music journey\, merging Iranian classical and western electronic sounds with Persian poetry. A laboratory for experimentation with composed and improvised music\, the project features the Iranian kamancheh and live electronics. We strive to push the boundaries of contemporary music and use poetry as a tangible medium to express profound human experiences. \n“Yearning\, Every Dawn” was born out of a piece for voice\, kamancheh\, and live electronics\, commission by Ojai in 2023 in collaboration with our brilliant friend\, Tara Khozein. The project blossomed into a concert-length program\, celebrating the gorgeous musical contributions by our Jessika Kenney\, Fariba Zahedi\, and Theodosia Roussos. \nWe were fortunate to develop the program at the most recent round of Banff Centre’s “Musicians in Residence” program in January 2024.\nCome along with open ears and bring your friends!

DESCRIPTION:The Borderless: Together Outside series kicks off with a panel discussion led by Paloma Mayorga and artwork by Darcie Book. Mayorga will moderate a conversation about human relationships to nature and landscape with panelists Jamal Hussain\, Kill Joy\, and Mueni Loko Rudd\, taking place on Sunday March 24th\, 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Dimension Gallery Sculpture Park. The conversation coincides with The Land Stares Back\, an interactive art intervention by Darcie Book. Please bring your picnic blankets and pillows for lawn seating. Limited chair seating will be available for those who need it. \nThe Borderless: Together Outside series addresses topics at the intersection of art and environmentalism\, led by Austin’s LGBTQIA+\, BIPOC\, and refugee communities. Some of our most vulnerable populations feel unsafe and unwelcome in our shared outdoor spaces\, and are therefore less likely to experience the joy and major health benefits of time spent in nature. Our goal is to make change in this area through the ongoing community series\, and other collaborative efforts. The project’s background is aligned with the artistic practice of founder\, Darcie Book\, as it considers our complex human relationship with the land. The idea is that we look into a landscape and the land looks right back at us. The land is aware.
