SUMMARY:ADVANCED BHARATA NATYAM INDIAN DANCE WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:This is a 12-week bharata natyam Indian dance workshop leads to participants demonstrating in a lecture-demo and then sharing in a public performance on May 31/June 1 at Dougherty Arts Theater. Open to anyone with intermediate/advanced skills in bharata natyam dance. Participants will learn rare choreography by 85 yr-old Mumbai based Pt VJ Pllai\, the dance master of Austin Dance India’s artistic director\, Anuradha Naimpally. Pillai is the last generation of descendants of his temple dance tradition\, of which there are very few remaining. As his student for over 45 years\, Naimpally’s repertoire includes pieces from his unique background that are at risk of disappearing if not passed to the next generation.
