DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Urban Echo\, a print and online newspaper inspired by the unsung\, unhoused heroes of Austin. Infamously known as Bat City\, Austin’s bats and humans coexist beneath downtown bridges. As Denver Gonzales says\, “To understand the health of our ecosystem\, we must listen to The Urban Echo.” Like bats using echolocation to navigate\, Urban Echo amplifies the diverse voices and powerful stories that shape our city. \nThe Urban Echo Writers Workshop gathers weekly at the Austin Central Public Library to provide community members an engaging space to learn journalism skills\, interview local artists\, and contribute their own voices through storytelling. Participants will gain practical experience with newspaper layout\, editing\, and receive supportive feedback on drafts. Each session includes group readings and collaborative editing to foster an inclusive community dedicated to authentic storytelling and community action. \nUrban Echo Magazine features contributions from ten artists per edition\, including interviews\, essays\, poetry\, prose\, and street photography. We believe in conversation over cancel culture and prioritize topics such as: \nStories of survival and mental health. \nThe resilience required to persist through life’s challenges. \nHow prisons and hospitals intersect with the lives of the unhoused. \nAddressing the complexities and ethical concerns surrounding homelessness. \nRehumanizing individuals who have been unfairly stereotyped. \nUrban Echo also supports initiatives such as Draw Together art classes at homeless encampments and Artists in Residency programs at ESB-MACC\, Carver Museum\, and Daugherty Arts Center. \nAccessibility:The Austin Central Public Library is fully accessible with automatic doors\, elevators\, and assistive technologies available. Infamously known as Bat City\, Austin’s bats and humans coexist beneath downtown bridges. As Denver Gonzales says\, “To understand the health of our ecosystem\, we must listen to The Urban Echo.” Like bats using echolocation to navigate\, Urban Echo amplifies the diverse voices and powerful stories that shape our city. \nThe Urban Echo Writers Workshop gathers weekly at the Austin Central Public Library to provide community members an engaging space to learn journalism skills\, interview local artists\, and contribute their own voices through storytelling. Participants will gain practical experience with newspaper layout\, editing\, and receive supportive feedback on drafts. Each session includes group readings and collaborative editing to foster an inclusive community dedicated to authentic storytelling and community action. \nUrban Echo Magazine features contributions from ten artists per edition\, including interviews\, essays\, poetry\, prose\, and street photography. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a dazzling night of disco and dancing! \nThe Disco Era took flight in Asian and Middle Eastern nightlife through the late 70s to the 80s. Disco’s influence took over the club scene throughout the world\, especially within Bollywood\, in Tehran\, Thailand\, Japan\, Singapore\, and Hong Kong. The dance floor of discotheques has been a haven for queer celebration\, liberation\, and self-expression. Our prom will particularly draw inspiration from the warm\, rich colors found in the Bollywood and Desi disco scene and we’re excited to see y’all there! \nAll tickets include 1 entry into the event except for the Childcare add-on as well as access to complimentary food\, drinks\, and 21+ beverages. Recommendations included for event pricing level. Please purchase at your comfort level.
