DESCRIPTION:Torch Literary Arts presents the Wildfire Reading Series featuring Ebony Stewart\, author of WASH. Join us for a reading\, conversation\, Q&A\, and book signing. \nThis event is free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated. \nEbony Stewart is an award-winning poet\, playwright\, and performance artist known for her powerful work as an artivist and social justice activator. As the 2017 Woman of the World Poetry Slam Champion\, she has performed internationally and authored acclaimed works like WASH\, BloodFresh\, and Home.Girl.Hood. She is the coach of the phenomenal 2x regional champs\, SMOKE Slam. Stewart is also a mental health advocate and former educator. \nTorch Literary Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to publish and promote creative writing by Black women. We publish contemporary writing by experienced and emerging writers alike. TORCH has featured work by Colleen J. McElroy\, Tayari Jones\, Sharon Bridgforth\, Crystal Wilkinson\, Patricia Smith\, Natasha Trethewey\, Elizabeth Alexander\, and others. Programs include the Wildfire Reading Series\, writing workshops\, retreats\, and special events. \nThis program is made possible with support from the Austin Economic Division\, the Burdine Johnson Foundation\, and the Austin Community Foundation.

She’s the author of the memoir Fruit Punch\, the poetry collection The Collection Plate\, and the essay collection When You Learn the Alphabet\, which won the Iowa Prize for Literary Nonfiction in 2018. You can find some of her other works on\, or in\, Oxford American\, High Times\, Repeller\, Southwest Review\, The Paris Review\, The Rumpus\, and more. In her spare time\, she loves laughing\, leaving\, and contemplating what’s the greatest rap verse of all time. \nTorch Literary Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to publish and promote creative writing by Black women.
