The Healing Voice – Medicine Song Course is a 4-week course from October 16th – November 15th centering on the voice and discovering its powerful channel of healing for you. The voice holds our most inner feelings and is an avenue in which to move and express this energy. We will practice opening the voice to this expression with the medicine and support of the natural elements.
In the course you will:
Discover how to gently open your voice
Learn vocal techniques for strengthening the voice
Learn a vocal sound meditation home practice to ground your energy
Learn how to move energy through your body with vocal toning
Connect to the natural elements within you through singing medicine songs
Sing and vocalize together in a supportive and uplifting group setting
This is not about perfection of voice but finding a re-connection to the vocal energy center using music meditation and mindfulness practices.
Instruments are welcome: Drum, guitar, harmonium. If you would like to bring an instrument there will be a chance to learn to play with the medicine songs.
We will meet over 4 weeks on the following evenings:
Wednesdays Oct 16 & Oct 23
Fridays Nov 8 & Nov 15
We skip one week in between. This is 4 nights in total. Class runs from 6:30pm-8:45pm each session.
Support provided in part by the City of Austin Live Music Fund.
The course will be led by music therapist, Andrea Cortez MM, MT-BC
