Experience South Asian Stories Coming Alive at PBS studios with Anklets in the Boardroom.
Join us for an evening of empowering theatre where the audience and the actors merge to create a uniquely powerful experience. This creative and unique project by Leela – An Indian Community Theatre showcases stories from the South Asian community about workplace discrimination. Artistic Director of Leela, Sharanya Rao, was inspired by Deepa Purushothaman’s book, The First, The Few & The Only in which she felt called to action to create more inclusive workplaces. An experienced coach and facilitator, Sharanya then facilitated story circles over 3 months and the Leela team collected stories from South Asian women in the community.
A selection of true stories from the story circles will be enacted at the performance. The audience will be invited to step into a world where they become catalysts for change. This interactive event will include thoughtful discussion on the theme of discrimination and power. Based on Augusto Boal’s Theater of the Oppressed, this transformative project aims to amplify the voices of South Asian women.
Come join us and create the change you want to see in the workplace!
