AUSTIN A LENS THROUGH TIME: A PHOTOGRAPHIC EXPLORATION OF ART, CULTURE, AND GENTRIFICATION THROUGH PRESERVATION.

November 20 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$325 – $400

“Austin: A Lens Through Time” is an immersive educational workshop documenting Austin’s unique cultural landmarks under the threat of gentrification and displacement. Using black and white analog film and the nearly forgotten art of darkroom processing, we aim to preserve Austin’s heritage while teaching participants the essentials of 35mm film photography.

This workshop invites photographers of all skill levels to develop their technique as we capture Austin’s iconic sites. Students will gain hands-on experience with analog film equipment and darkroom procedures, including using a film camera, developing negatives, and printing images on photosensitive paper.

The course will conclude with a free in-person exhibition to showcase the participants’ work, highlighting the impact of art in preserving history and community identity.

This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
