I Scream Social featuring Kyle Okeke, Jose Flores, & Jenny Tinghui Zhang

We are thrilled to welcome Kyle Okeke, Jose Flores, and Jenny Tinghui Zhang for our September I Scream Social!

Presented by Host Publications, I Scream Social is a monthly feminist reading series and ice cream party that takes place at Alienated Majesty Books. We aim to celebrate and empower historically marginalized writers and share incredible literature and diverse perspectives to an Austin-area audience. Hosted by Host Publications editors Annar Veröld & Claire Bowman! Free & open to all!

What to Expect & Event Notes:
– Open mic sign-ups begin at 6:45pm and are reserved for writers from historically marginalized communities.
– We will be spotlighting mutual-aid organizations: Workshops4Gaza, Slipper Assembly, Austin Public Library, & Street Forum!

ABOUT THE GUESTS
Jose Flores is a first generation immigrant and Austinite. Co-host of the Write or Die ATX group that sometimes meets to write!
Kyle Okeke is an MFA student at UT Austin. His chapbook “A Door in the Snow” is set to be published by the poetry society of America in 2026.
Jenny Tinghui Zhang is the author of the novels Superfan (forthcoming in February 2026) and Four Treasures of the Sky, named an Idaho Book of the Year and short- and longlisted for the Chautauqua Prize, the Dublin Literary Award, the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and the VCU Cabell First Novelist Award. Her work has appeared in The Cut, Foreign Policy, The New York Times, Texas Highways, and elsewhere. She is a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree and has received support from Yaddo, Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Kundiman, VONA/Voices, Tin House, and the University of Wyoming, where she completed her MFA.
