The Interpreter documentary is an upcoming film that celebrates the artistry, creativity, and community impact of American Sign Language interpretation in music and performance. Created by co-directors Cassie Hay and Karen Skloss, the project highlights the ways interpreters bring music to life, making it accessible while also transforming it into a visual art form.
Guests will be among the first to view this work-in-progress short, followed by a Q&A with interpreters featured/involved in the film. They will share their experiences working in music and performance spaces, and reflect on the broader role of interpretation in building inclusive cultural experiences.
This project is supported in part by the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
